Forest Engineer, Ph.D. in Ecology and Full Professor at UFRJ. He served on the UN panels for climate and biodiversity and was a director at the Botanical Garden of Rio, at Conservation International and at the Brazilian Foundation for Sustainable Development. He received two Jabuti Literature Awards in the area of Natural Sciences. His most recent book is Regenerantes de Gaia (2019).
