Estevam Barbosa de Las Casas completed his doctorate degree in 1988 at Purdue University. He was a visiting professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia from 1995 to 1996, and is currently a full professor in the Department of Structural Engineering at UFMG and director of the Institute of Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies of UFMG (IEAT). He was one of the coordinators of the First National Meeting of Biomechanical Engineering and the first Symposium on Computational Mechanics. Founding associate and first president of the Brazilian Association of Computational Methods (ABMEC), being currently a member of its Advisory Board. Coordinated the Chamber of Engineering and Architecture of FAPEMIG, and was the Evaluation Coordinator of the Engineering Area I of CAPES (2011-2014). Member of the Advisory Council of the Civil Engineering area of CNPq since 2020.
