Dr Alex Enrich Pras is Associate Professor at the Department of Thematic Studies - Environmental
Change and research area leader of the Biogas Research Center at Linköping University (Sweden). Dr
Prast focuses on the cycling of elements and the energy flow in natural tropical environments, most specifically in the Amazon forest, based on the conviction that a sustainable development in that region will only be achieved if the forest structure and functioning is increasingly understood. Due to his interest in applying ecological knowledge to solve environmental problems and to generate bioproducts, his researched also focus on biofuels, most specifically biogas. His interest in Biogas research is stimulated by a personal perception that there is no sustainable future for human society, that does not include biogas and biofertilizer production. Biogas production is one of the simplest and smartest solutions to simultaneously generate clean energy, store electricity, recover elements, treat organic waste and on the top of that, minimize human impacts on natural environments, preserving ecosystem services.
