Appointed as Vice-Director of CEA / UFC, he is a doctor, researcher, Professor of Pharmacology, Dean of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Faculty, researcher at CNPq and member of the Brazilian Academy of Science (ABC). He is an Honorary Member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Former Fellow of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Associate Researcher at the University of Virginia, USA. It works in scientific research focused on the study of diarrheal diseases, malnutrition, enteropathy, intestinal functional barrier, prevention and treatment, as well as its short, medium and long term impacts on cognitive development, growth, and education in children participating in cohort studies in urban communities in Fortaleza and the Brazilian semi-arid region. He also participated in the founding of the National Institute of Biomedicine of the Brazilian Semi-Arid Region, being its current Coordinator.
